5513美國當地時間2月9日，美國國家工程院（NAE）院長約翰·L·安德森（John L. Anderson）宣布，NAE選出106位新院士和23位外籍院士。因在空間機器人和自主系統方面的杰出貢獻，香港中文大學（深圳）校長徐揚生當選為美國國家工程院外籍院士。
徐教授所研究的領域包括機器人和人工智能，專注于空間機器人、智能控制、人機界面、動態穩定系統和機器學習，并在這些領域發表了六部專著和300多篇國際學術論文。他是中國工程院院士、歐洲科學院院士、國際宇航科學院院士、國際電機及電子工程師學會院士、國際歐亞科學院院士以及香港工程科學院院士。2016年，國際小行星命名委員會將國際永久編號第59425號小行星1999 GJ5命名為——“徐揚生星”。2020年，徐揚生教授當選中國深圳經濟特區建立40周年40位先進模范人物。

On February 9, 2021, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced its election of 106 new members and 23 international members. Professor Yangsheng Xu, president of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, was elected as an international member for his outstanding contributions in space robotics and autonomous systems.
Professor Xu's research interests include robotics, intelligent systems and artificial intelligence. He has been interested in space robotics, service robotics, robot language, wearable interface, intelligent vehicles and self-learning systems. He has published 6 books and over 300 papers in international journals in these areas. He is Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fellow of International Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Science, and Fellow of EU Academy of Sciences. In 2016, the Committee for Small-Body Nomenclature of the International Astronomical Union named the No. 59425 minor planet 1999 GJ5 as Xu Yangsheng Star. In 2020, Professor Yangsheng Xu was listed on the 40 Innovative Entrepreneurs who have made distinguished contribution to the Shenzhen’s 40-year Development.
